MERRIMACK UPSETS 10TH-RANKED FIELD HOCKEY, 1-0

Phone: (802) 654-2537North Andover, MA -- Sophomore Anne Rounce (South Windsor, CT) netted the game-winning goal with 12:16 left in regulation to lead Merrimack to an upset win over 10th ranked Saint Michael’s, 1-0 at Warrior Field.
Rounce received a pass from fellow sophomore Kristen Belair (Methuen, MA) off a penalty corner, the Warriors (6-9, 5-9 Northeast-10) only penalty corner on the afternoon, and blasted a shot from just inside the circle to end the scoreless tie. The Purple Knights (7-10, 7-8 Northeast-10) had chances in the second half as Saint Michael’s totaled 13 shots and eight penalty corners in the final 35 minutes of action.
Junior Johanne Skelley (Wolfeboro, NH) had five shots in the contest, while fellow junior Meg McCarthy (Lunenburg, MA) added three shots for the Purple Knights. Freshman Amy Larrabee (Stratham, NH) stopped 14 shots to pick up her sixth win of the season and her third shutout as Merrimack defeated its first ranked opponent of the season. Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, VT) made three saves, but fell to 2-6 on the year.
Merrimack returns to action on Saturday, October 23 as the Warriors travel to Worcester, MA for their final Northeast-10 Conference regular season match of the season. Merrimack will take on Assumption at H.L. Rocheleau Field at 10:30am. Saint Michael’s will next play on Saturday, October 23 as the Purple Knight host American International in a Northeast-10 Conference match at 2:00pm on Doc Jacobs Field.
