PURPLE KNIGHTS DEFEATED BY FRANKLIN PIERCE, 3-0

Phone: (802) 654-2929COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's College (1-11, 1-10 NE-10) was defeated by Franklin Pierce College (10-11, 8-4 NE-10) in straight sets in Northeast-10 volleyball on Wednesday evening at the Ross Sports Center.
For the Ravens, freshman Karissa Hookstadt (Camarillo, Calif./Camarillo) had 27 assists and four kills, as classmate Nicole Buchholz (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) picked up 10 kills, and assisted on three blocks. Junior Michelle McConnell (Elora, Ontario/Centre Wellington) had three service aces and 14 digs, while co-captain Tara Vece (Clinton, Conn./Morgan School) contributed 15 digs.
For the Purple Knights, senior Jessica Mulroy (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) had a game high 35 assists, and freshman Stephanie Smetana (Independence, Mo./Truman) had 15 digs. Katie Ouellette (Hampton, N.H./Winnacunnet) helped out with 13 kills, and also assisted on three blocks.
In game one, the Ravens broke a 12-12 tie, and went on an 18-7 run to pick up the win, 30-19. Game number two remained much closer throughout, until Franklin Pierce opened up their biggest lead of the game at 28-22. The Purple Knights battled back and narrowed the deficit to just one point at 29-28 before ultimately losing the game 30-28. After trailing 17-6, Saint Michael's lost game three by a score of 30-25, despite outscoring Franklin Pierce 19-13 to close out the match.The Purple Knights will return to action this weekend as they travel to Saratoga Springs, N.Y. to take part in the Skidmore Tournament. Saint Michael's will play Union on Friday at 6 p.m. and will play two games on Saturday, against Skidmore at 10 a.m. and Hamilton at 2 p.m. Franklin Pierce plays again on Saturday at the University of New Haven at noon.
