PURPLE KNIGHTS DEFEATED BY MERRIMACK, 3-0

Phone: (802) 654-2929COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael's College (1-10, 1-9 NE-10) was defeated in straight sets by Merrimack College (8-13, 6-4 NE-10) by scores of 30-13, 30-16, and 30-16 in Northeast-10 volleyball action on Sunday at the Ross Sports Center.
The Warriors were led by freshman Ale Kuncaitis (Canton, Mass./Canton) who had a game high 12 kills, and also supplied a solo and two assisted blocks. Senior Kendall Rizzo (Chelmsford, Mass./Chelmsford) contributed 30 assists and 17 digs, along with two service aces, as classmate Lindsay Larson (Mission Viejo, Calif./Laguna Hills) helped with nine kills and 18 digs.
For the Purple Knights, co-captain Jessica Mulroy (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) had 20 assists, two service aces, and two assisted blocks, as fellow senior Kaitlyn Rae (Willbraham, Mass./Minnechuag Reg.) led the team with nine kills. Freshman Amy Manougian (Rye, N.H./Portsmouth) added ten digs for Saint Michael's.
After opening game number one with a 12-9 lead, Merrimack went on an 18-4 run to finish with a 30-13 victory. In game two, Saint Michael's jumped out on top early, but the Warriors were able to take control and finish with a 30-16 win. Merrimack then went on to take game three, also by a 30-16 score, completed by a 14-5 run.
The Purple Knights will return to action on Wednesday evening with a home contest against Franklin Pierce at 5 p.m. and Merrimack will host Le Moyne on Saturday at 5 p.m.
