MANCHESTER, N.H. – Southern New Hampshire University scored two goals in the final 2:20 to earn a wild 3-2 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action tonight at Dr. George J. Larkin Field on the SNHU campus. SNHU improved to 6-6-1 overall and 3-5-1 in the league, while the Purple Knights fell to 4-9-1 overall and 1-9-0 in the league.

Saint Michael's took a 2-1 lead early in the second half and appeared poised for the upset, before the Penmen evened the game at 2-2 when freshman Brendan Joseph (Bedford, N.H.) collected a pass from senior Ryan Hamilton (Oceanside, N.Y.) in the Saint Michael's box and lined a shot into the right corner of the SMC net for his first career goal. The Penmen struck again just 44 seconds later, as junior Romelle Burgess (St. Michael, Barbados) took a pass from sophomore Pat White (Amherst, N.H.), turned and fired a shot into the upper left corner from 20 yards out.

SNHU opened the scoring in the 14th minute when junior Sherwin Merryman (St. Patrick's, Grenada) headed home a corner kick by senior Mike Savastra (Glastonbury, Conn.). The Purple Knights managed just one shot on goal in the first half, but they made it count as senior Bobby Self (Kailua, Hawaii) drilled a free kick into the upper right corner of the SNHU net from 30 yards out with 6:13 left before halftime.

SNHU goaltender Dan Pelc (Hamilton, Ontario) kept the game tied at 1-1 when he denied SMC's Jerrod Hall (Bennington, Vt.) on a breakaway, but the Purple Knights took the lead moments later after junior Kimoi Seale (Brooklyn, N.Y.) headed home a corner kick by sophomore Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt.).

Pelc, who finished with three saves in the game, came up with another big save for SNHU in the 83rd minute, as he turned away a breakaway attempt by senior Mike Ulshoeffer (Easthampton, Mass.).  Joseph netted the equalizer four minutes later. Junior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt.) made six saves for the Purple Knights, who were looking to record their first win over the Penmen since 1986.

Both teams return to league play Saturday (10/16).  SNHU travels across town to face Saint Anselm College, while Saint Michael's hosts third-ranked Southern Connecticut State.
