MANCHESTER, N.H. – Senior Nikki Cote’s (Bristol, RI) goal with 1:24 to play in regulation snapped a scoreless tie and lifted Southern New Hampshire University to a 1-0 victory over Saint Michael’s College in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action Tuesday night at SNHU’s Dr. George J. Larkin Field.

It marked the second-straight 1-0 victory for SNHU, which evened its record at 6-6-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the league. Saint Michael’s fell to 4-10-0 overall and 4-4-2 in the NE-10.

Freshman
Cary Rivett (Uxbridge, MA) created the scoring chance when she got to a loose ball deep in the Saint Michael’s end and sent a pass to sophomore Stephanie Jones (Barnstable, MA) on the right flank. Jones carried the ball to the endline and chipped a pass to the front of the Saint Michael’s net, and Cote finished the play with a diving header into an opened net from 10 yards out.  It marked the team-leading fourth goal of the year for Cote, and her second game-winning goal of the season.

The game featured limited scoring chances. The Penmen recorded just 11 shots at net, while the Purple Knights managed just two shots.

Sophomore
Nicole Visconti (
North Reading, MA) went the distance in net for the Penmen and made one save enroute to her second-straight shutout.  Sophomore Gillian Goldman (Stratham, NH) started in net for Saint Michael’s, but was forced to leave the game after colliding with SNHU’s Laurie Boland (Worcester, MA) just 1:32 into the contest. Sophomore Molly Cole (Dover, NH) took over the recorded four saves.

SNHU returns to action Thursday (10/13) when it travels to Stonehill College for a re-scheduled NE-10 match at 4 p.m.  Saint Michael’s hosts nationally-ranked Assumption College Saturday (10/15) at 1 p.m.
