Manchester, N.H. (October 5, 2005)—Saint Anselm defeated Saint Michael’s in the second overtime, 3-2, in Northeast-10 women’s soccer action at Melucci Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, Saint Anselm improves its record to 6-5-1 (3-5- 1 NE-10) while Saint Michael’s falls to 4-8-0 (2-7-0 NE-10).

Saint Michael’s freshman Skylar Bryan (No. Yarmouth, Maine) opened the scoring with her first career goal in the 27th minute, sending a shot in from 24 yards out that bounced in past Hawks goalkeeper Ashley Capachione (Whitman, Mass.).

Stephanie Blaisdell (Exeter, N.H.) evened the score 12 minutes later, scoring on a high-arcing shot past the right of Saint Michael’s keeper Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H.)

The Hawks took a one-goal advantage just over two minutes into the second half when Emily Lapworth (Milton, Mass.) took advantage of a defender’s miscue and sent the ball in 17 yards past Purple Knights’ goalie Molly Cole (Dover, N.H.) who came into the game at the half.

Mary Skahan (Cumberland, Maine) evened the game at two apiece with her first career goal in the 71st minute after intercepting a pass from a Saint Anselm defender.

Freshman Michelle Nuzzo (Dedham, Mass.) found the ball amidst several Purple Knights defenders in the sixth minute of the second overtime period, and powered it through for the game-winner.

Goldman made three saves in the first half for Saint Michael’s, while Cole tallied six saves in the remainder of the game. Capachione made four saves for the victory.

Saint Anselm travels to Saint Rose on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. conference contest. Saint Michael’s hosts Southern Connecticut Saturday at noon for an NE-10 matchup.
