For the River Hawks, sophomore Sara Hohenberger (Windham, N.H.) and seniors Jacklyn Driscoll (Waltham, Mass.) and Alysia Morgan (Gardner, Mass.) scored, while junior Courtney Hill (Newburyport, Mass.) tallied two assists. Sophomore Nicole Staiti (Barre, Mass.) stopped six shots for UMass Lowell (13-0, 10-0 NE-10).
Senior Tamsen Hunter (Center Tuftonboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) recorded two saves for Saint Michael’s (5-8, 5-6 NE-10), which dropped a 4-3 decision to the River Hawks earlier in the season.
Saint Michael’s stayed even with its top-ranked counterparts for most of the first half, but the visitors cracked the scoreboard with 5:05 left in the opening period, as Driscoll converted off of a penalty corner.
UMass Lowell clinched the win with a pair of goals three minutes apart early in the second half. Morgan gave the River Hawks a 2-0 lead 4:20 into the frame on an unassisted tally, while Hohenberger completed the scoring off of an assist from Hill.
The Purple Knights’ best chance to score came midway through the second half, but junior Emma Kosciak’s (Groton, Mass./Groton-Dunstable) penalty stroke clanged off of the right post. Saint Michael’s recorded 15 penalty corners in the contest to just six for UMass Lowell.
Saint Michael’s plays two key league contests this week in its battle for a playoff berth, as the Purple Knights visit seventh-ranked Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday before hosting ninth-ranked Stonehill College on Monday at 1 p.m.
