Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – A goal by junior Andrew Parris (Dighton, Mass.) early in the second half proved to be the difference as Stonehill College held off Saint Michael’s College, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action on Tuesday at Doc Jacobs Field.
Senior J.J. DeOliveira (New Bedford, Mass.) assisted on the winning tally, while junior Chad Etting (Plymouth, Conn.) turned back 11 shots for his third shutout of the season. Stonehill (3-6-0, 2-5-0 NE-10) has won two in a row following a four-game losing skid.
For the Purple Knights, junior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) recorded two saves. Saint Michael’s (4-7-1, 1-7-0) has lost seven straight contests after beginning the season 4-0-1.
Saint Michael’s dictated the play for much of the contest, as the hosts outshot the Chieftains, 19-5. However, following a scoreless first half, Stonehill got all the scoring it would need 3:55 into the second stanza, as Parris netted his first goal of the year, and just the seventh goal for Stonehill in nine games this season.
Saint Michael’s plays its next two games on the road, at Assumption College on Friday and Southern New Hampshire University on Oct. 12, before hosting undefeated Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, Oct. 16 at 2 p.m.
