COLCHESTER, Vt. – Sophomore Mike Earnest (Groton, Mass.) tallied the game-winner with 5:30 remaining as Bentley College edged Saint Michael’s College, 2-1, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

Earnest has now scored all three game-winning goals for Bentley (3-5-2, 2-3-1 NE-10). Junior Mike Purpura (Framingham, Mass.) also scored for the Falcons, while classmate Greg Ott (Guilford, Conn.) turned back eight shots.

For the Purple Knights, sophomore Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt./Arlington Memorial) scored his fourth goal of the season off of an assist from freshman Brandon Beaudoin (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport). Freshman Tim Williamson (Wakefield, R.I./Barrington) stopped 11 shots in his first collegiate start for Saint Michael’s (4-6-1, 1-6-0), which has dropped six straight contests following a 4-0-1 start.

After a scoreless first half that saw Bentley outshoot Saint Michael’s 7-5, the visitors opened the scoring 67 minutes into the contest, as Purpura blasted a shot off of a pass from senior Ryan Parisi (Millersville, Md.).

The Purple Knights evened the score with just six minutes left in regulation, as Beaudoin lifted a crossing pass to Sherman. The goal snapped a 427-minute scoreless drought, dating back to the Sept. 18 contest versus Bryant University.

Bentley, however, answered right back, as Parisi set up Earnest for the clinching goal just 30 seconds after Sherman’s tying tally.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Tuesday, as the Purple Knights host league-rival Stonehill College at 3:30 p.m. at Doc Jacobs Field.
