PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN WIN SECOND STRAIGHT, BLANK LE MOYNE, 1-0         Burdett’s first career goal stands up as SMC notches third shutout of the season FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE                                                               FOR MORE INFORMATION October 1, 2005                                                                                  Contact: Seth Cole                                                                                                          Phone: (802) 654-2537 COLCHESTER, Vt. – Sophomore Katie Burdett’s (Milford, N.H./Milford) first career goal six minutes into the contest stood up as Saint Michael’s College blanked Le Moyne College, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action on Saturday on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.             For the Purple Knights, sophomores Molly Cole (Dover, N.H./Dover) and Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) played one half in goal to share the shutout, with Cole stopping one shot to earn the victory, and Goldman recording two saves. Saint Michael’s (4-7-0, 2-6-0 NE-10) won its second straight conference game, and posted its third shutout of the season.             For the Dolphins, freshman Amanda Abbatiello (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) turned aside six shots as Le Moyne (4-5-1, 2-5-1 NE-10) was blanked for the third straight game and fifth time in its last six contests.             The Purple Knights scored the only goal they would need 6:08 into the game, as Burdett gathered a loose ball 30 yards from the goal, and lofted a shot that sailed over Abbatiello into the top-left corner for an unassisted goal.             Saint Michael’s had a strong chance to double its lead with 15 minutes left in the second half, but Abbatiello turned away three chances in a 30-second span, including a breakaway shot from Purple Knights’ freshman Mary Skahan (Cumberland, Maine/Greely). Le Moyne controlled play in the final 10 minutes with the wind at its back, but couldn’t manage a quality shot attempt.              Saint Michael’s returns to action on Wednesday at Saint Anselm College at 3:30 p.m. before hosting Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday, October 8 at 12 p.m. Le Moyne plays at Franklin Pierce College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.   GAME SUMMARY Le Moyne                      0          0          - 0 Saint Michael’s              1          0          - 1 First Half: SMC, Burdett (unassisted), 6:08.
