LOWELL, Mass. – Senior Taylor Kloss (Georgetown, MA) registered her second multi-goal game of the year, netting two to lead the UMass Lowell River Hawks past visiting Saint Michael’s 2-1 this afternoon at Cushing Field.  The River Hawks extended their winning streak to eight games and raised their overall record to 10-2 (9-1 Northeast-10).  Saint Michael’s dropped to 7-5 on the year (7-3 Northeast-10).

Kloss opened the scoring in the 29th minute when she tapped in a Missy Seeley (East Hampstead, NH) pass from the left side of the net to give UML a 1-0 lead at the end of the first half.

Kloss struck again in the 63rd minute to extend the River Hawk advantage to 2-0.  Senior F Courtney Hill (Newburyport, MA) started the play with a shot from the top of the circle, which Kloss redirected through traffic and into the back of the net.

The Purple Knights’ Chelsea Kimball (North Berwick, ME) answered three minutes later to cut the UML lead in half 2-1.  Kimball was alone in front of the net with time to shoot and aimed the ball inside the far left post past River Hawk goalkeeper Nicole Staiti (Barre, MA).  Kimball’s goal was the first given up by Staiti in the last 206 minutes of play, a streak extending back two games.

Staiti made four saves to earn the win, while Tina Nardi (Rupert, VT) stopped four shots in net for Saint Michael’s.  Penalty corners were even, with both teams taking eight.

The River Hawks travel to Franklin Pierce for a rare non-conference match against the Northeast-10 rival Ravens at 6:00 Wednesday.
