MEN'S SOCCER DROPS FIFTH STRAIGHT, FALLS AT UMASS LOWELL, 3-0

LOWELL, Mass. – UMass Lowell had three different players etch the scoresheet as it defeated Saint Michael’s, 3-0, Wednesday night in a Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer tilt at Cushing Field. The victory was the third straight for UML, which improved to 6-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in the NE-10. Saint Michael’s endured its fifth straight loss and slipped to 4-5-1 overall and 1-5-0 in the Conference.

UML, ranked No. 21 in this week’s NSCAA Division II poll, hosts Franklin Pierce Saturday at 3:00. Saint Michael's hosts Bentley on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Doc Jacobs Field.

The shutout victory extended opponents’ goalless streak at Cushing Field to 474 minutes, dating back to last season. The clean sheet was UML’s sixth in eight matches this season.

Senior D Kyle Burson (The Woodlands, TX) opened the scoring in the 16th minute when he one-time a 22-yard blast from a lay-off pass from senior F Jason Paige (Woburn, MA). Sophomore F Andrew Doherty (Malden, MA) doubled the lead in the 28th minute when he tapped in a rebound from a saved blast by freshman M Miguel Vidal (Grafton, MA). Freshman D Tiago Cordoso (Lowell, MA) opened his collegiate account in the 66th minute when he received a cross pass from senior M Tim Garry (Medway, MA) on the right side and beat Saint Michael’s goalkeeper Tim Williamson (Wakefield, RI) inside the right post.

The River Hawks outshot the Purple Knights 28-7 overall and 18-4 on target as Williamson and junior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, VT) combined for 15 saves. Junior Bobby Ritter (North Andover, MA) stopped four shots for the River Hawks.
