WOMEN'S TENNIS DUO CLAIM NORTHEAST-10 WEEKLY AWARDS

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – A pair of Saint Michael's College women's tennis student-athletes won weekly awards from the Northeast-10 Conference on Monday, while seven other Purple Knights claimed spots on the weekly honor roll.
Junior Cara Bednar (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) was named the league's Player of the Week, while Molly Harrison (Windham, N.H./Salem) earned Freshman of the Week. Both won in singles and doubles action in Thursday's 9-0 blanking of Lyndon State College, the Purple Knights' second straight victory.
In men's tennis, a trio of Purple Knights were honored for their performance in Saturday's 9-0 win versus Lyndon State College. Junior Andrew Bolduc (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and sophomore Andrew Samara (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) teamed for an 8-3 victory in No. 1 doubles and also won their respective singles match, while freshman John Lescure (Kennebunk, Maine/Kennebunk) also won in singles and doubles.
In field hockey, junior Lindsay Brancaleone (Gloucester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) was honored. She tallied a career-high three goals in Saturday's 5-1 win against Merrimack College, and added an assist in Sunday's 5-0 shutout of American International College.
In volleyball, freshman Stephanie Smetana (Independence, Mo./Truman) was recognized, as she paced the Purple Knights with 15 kills and 16 digs in Saturday's 3-1 loss to the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
In women's soccer, sophomore Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) received honors. She allowed just one goal in more than 100 minutes of action last week while stopping five shots.
In women's tennis, senior Heidi Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) was named to the honor roll, as she won in both singles and doubles play in Thursday's shutout of Lyndon State.
