COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Lindsay Brancaleone (Gloucester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) tallied a career-high three goals as Saint Michael’s College rolled past Merrimack College, 5-1, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Saturday on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.

For the Purple Knights, senior Amber Holbomb (Essex Junction, Vt./Essex) and junior Ashley Webb (Simsbury, Conn./Simsbury) also scored, while senior Johanne Skelley (Wolfeboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) notched a pair of assists. Junior Tina Nardi (Rupert, Vt./Salem Central) did not record a save to earn her fifth win in six games for Saint Michael’s (5-4, 5-2 NE-10), ranked eighth in this week’s STX/NFHCA Division II National Coaches’ Poll.

For the Warriors, senior Meghan Bassett (Stoneham, Mass.) scored off of an assist from junior Anne Rounce (South Windsor, Conn.). Sophomore Amy Larrabee (Stratham, N.H.) stopped a dozen shots for Merrimack (5-4, 5-4 NE-10).

Merrimack opened the scoring less than 10 minutes into the contest, as Bassett redirected Rounce’s pass for her first goal of the season. From there, Saint Michael’s dictated the tempo for the remainder of the contest, and Brancaleone evened the score at 1-all with 10 minutes left in the half on an unassisted goal, her first of the season.

The score remained tied until early in the second half, when Webb scored what proved to be the game-winner off of a Skelley assist. Seven minutes later, Holcomb increased the lead to 3-1 off of an assist from junior Lindsay Harrison (Brandon, Vt./Otter Valley Union), and Brancaleone completed the hat trick with two goals in the final 11 minutes, off of assists from sophomore Chelsea Kimball (North Berwick, Maine/Noble) and Skelley.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. home game against American International College. Merrimack next plays at Castleton State College on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
