Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior Laurie Lamoureux (Leicester, Mass.) scored a pair of second half goals as 22nd-ranked Merrimack College bested Saint Michael’s College, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action on Tuesday at Doc Jacobs Field.
For the Warriors, sophomore Julie Anderson (Middletown, R.I.) also scored, while freshman Shannon Rowan (Fair Haven, N.J.) turned aside six shots for Merrimack (6-1-1, 4-1-1 NE-10).
Saint Michael’s (5-3-0, 3-3-0 NE-10) received its goal from sophomore Jenn Kerns (Waltham, Mass./Waltham) off of an assist from senior Karyn Sporer (Southborough, Mass./Marian). Freshmen Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) and Molly Cole (Dover, N.H./Dover) each stopped six shots.
After a scoreless first half that saw Merrimack outshoot Saint Michael’s 11-5, the Warriors broke through 1:50 into the second period, as Lamoureux left-footed a pass from senior Kelly Laprade (Spencer, Mass.) past a diving Cole. The hosts evened the score less than three minutes later, as Kerns’ blast from outside the box found the upper-left corner of the net.
Lamoureux gave Merrimack the lead for good in the 62nd minute, converting from point-blank range. The visitors sealed the victory with 7:24 remaining on Anderson’s unassisted tally.
Saint Michael’s plays its next two games on the road, beginning with Saturday’s league contest at Pace University. The Purple Knights’ next home contest is Wed., Sept. 29, versus the University of Massachusetts Lowell at 4 p.m.
