Junior forward Laura Blanchard (Rockport, Mass./Rockport) tallied the lone goal of the game, while classmate Brandi Guertin (Bellingham, Mass./Bellingham) posted her first shutout of the season. With the win, the Ravens improve their overall and conference record to 3-3. The Purple Knights drop to 4-5 overall and 4-3 in league play.
Just 1:57 into the match, Blanchard took a feed from senior co-captain April Demers (Gorham, N.H./Gorham) and scored her first goal of the season. It would prove to be the game winner, as the Franklin Pierce defense stifled the Saint Michael’s offensive attack for the remainder of the match. The Ravens notched the victory despite being outshot nine to three. Guertin saved all nine shots en route to earning her third victory of the season and sixth career shutout. Saint Michael’s senior goalkeeper Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) drops to 1-3 on the season with the loss.
Franklin Pierce (3-3, 3-3 NE-10) will return to action on Saturday when they host Bryant University in a Northeast-10 Conference match up. Saint Michael’s (4-5, 4-3 NE-10) will also be in action on Saturday when they host conference foe Bentley at 1 p.m. at Doc Jacobs Field.
