COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt./Arlington Memorial) scored twice and senior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) stopped two shots as Saint Michael’s College blanked Assumption College, 3-0, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s soccer action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

For the Purple Knights, freshman Jan Heyboer (Park Ridge, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) netted his first collegiate goal, while sophomore Yoshikazu Ishii (Tokyo, Japan) added a pair of assists. Saint Michael’s (3-4, 1-2 NE-10) has won its last two games by 3-0 decisions, and earned its first conference victory of the season.

For the Greyhounds, junior Brett Miller (Franklin, Mass.) stopped eight shots, including several spectacular saves, as Assumption (0-7, 0-5 NE-10) was blanked for the third straight game and fourth time this season.

Saint Michael’s opened the scoring less than eight minutes into the contest, as Sherman netted his second goal of the season off of an Ishii assist. The Purple Knights doubled their lead late in the opening stanza on Heyboer’s goal, with classmate Fraser Watson (Gloucester, Mass./Gloucester) earning the assist for his first collegiate point.

Sherman completed the scoring 7:40 into the second half, with Ishii and sophomore Brandon Beaudoin (Newburyport, Mass./Newburyport) notching assists. The goal gives Sherman 42 career points, moving him into a tie for fourth place in the program’s 46-year history.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Tuesday at Saint Anselm College at 3:30 p.m., and next plays at home versus Le Moyne College on Sept. 24 at 1 p.m. Assumption next plays at Stonehill on Sept. 24 at 1 p.m.
