PURPLE KNIGHTS GOLF TEAM PLACES THIRD IN SEASON OPENER

JAFFREY, N.H. - The Franklin Pierce Men's Golf team turned in a dominating performance to win the Franklin Pierce Invitational at The Shattuck on Wednesday afternoon in season-opening golf action. American International junior Preston Cicchine (Kitchener, Ont.) carded a 79 to take medallist honors at the four-team event. 

The Ravens top two teams took first and second place overall, with scores of 342 and 360. Senior Nick Matulonis (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) led the number one team for Franklin Pierce. His score of 81 was good for second place overall in the tournament. Senior Mike Smith (Hanover, Mass./Hanover) was also solid, checking in with an 83, good for third place individually. The Ravens number two team was composed of five freshmen, competing in their first collegiate tournament. Craig Jasinski (Chelmsford, Mass.) led this team with an 86. Franklin Pierce finished ahead of Saint Michael's College (361), American International College (363) and Stonehill College's club team (394). 

Saint Michael's returns to the links on Friday, September 24, when it participates in the Northeast-10 Championships at 9 a.m.
