SMC VOLLEYBALL DROPS THREE-SETTER TO UMASS LOWELL

Courtesy UML Sports Information Phone: (802) 654-2537LOWELL, Mass. – Sophomore outside hitter Julie Handy (Yorba Linda, CA) compiled 17 kills and 11 digs as UMass Lowell defeated Saint Michael’s, 3-0 (30-21, 30-21, 30-23), Saturday afternoon in a Northeast-10 Conference volleyball match at Costello Gym.
The win was the second straight UML, which improved to 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the NE-10. Saint Michael’s slipped to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the Conference. The River Hawks host Southern New Hampshire Tuesday at 7:00.
Handy hit .438 for the match while junior Katie Harrington (Rochester, NH) added 14 kills and 13 digs. Sophomore setter Caitlin Harte (East Rochester, NH) dished out 38 assists in addition to 14 service points and seven digs. Senior middle hitter Lauren Dufresne (Chelmsford, MA) chipped in 13 digs along with three blocks and 11 service points.
Senior outside hitter Lindsey Shumway (Scotia, NY/Burnt Hills) led the Purple Knights with 10 kills while freshman Leslie Herwig (Kingston, NY/Kingston) added 10 digs, and junior setter Jessica Mulroy (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) notched 24 assists.
