COLCHESTER, Vt. – Franklin Pierce College, ranked No. 3 in this week’s NSCAA/adidas Division II National Poll, scored four answered goals to erase an early deficit and defeat Saint Michael’s College, 4-1, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s soccer action on Wednesday on Duffy Field at Doc Jacobs Complex.

Senior Laura Hislop (Belfast, Northern Ireland) led the Ravens with two goals, including the game-winner, and an assist, while freshman Ann Foley (Rockland, Mass.) also scored twice. Sophomore Taryn Welker (Wayne, Pa.) recorded a pair of assists, while junior Linnea Authier (East Longmeadow, Mass.) stopped one shot for Franklin Pierce (3-0-1, 1-0-1 NE-10).

For the Purple Knights, freshman Kelley Ruch (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) notched her team-leading third goal of the season, and third in as many games. Sophomores Molly Cole (Dover, N.H./Dover) and Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) stopped five and four shots, respectively, with Cole suffering the loss for Saint Michael’s (1-3, 0-2 NE-10).

Saint Michael’s put a scare into the powerful Ravens early, as Ruch capitalized on a Franklin Pierce miscue and rifled a shot past Authier for an unassisted goal 10:42 into the contest. The Purple Knights maintained their one-goal lead for the next 10 minutes, until Hislop blasted a shot past Cole for her team-best fifth goal of the season. Less than two minutes later, Hislop gave the Ravens the lead for good off of an assist from classmate Elizabeth Allen (Durham, N.H.), and Foley netted goals in the 40th and 52nd minutes to complete the scoring.

The Purple Knights play their next three games on the road, beginning with Sunday’s 1 p.m. contest at Merrimack College, before hosting the College of Saint Rose on Wed., Sept. 21 at 4:15 p.m.
