SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – Sophomore Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) and senior Linette Letendre (Wellfleet, Mass./Northfield-Mt. Hermon) each recorded goals to lead the Saint Michael’s College field hockey team to Tuesday afternoon’s 2-1 win over American International College at Yellow Jackets Field. The Purple Knights won their second-straight game and move to 2-3 overall and 2-1 in the Northeast-10, while the Yellow Jackets suffer their third one-goal loss to open the season and fall to 0-3 overall and in the league.

Freshman Nicole Phelps (Nassau, N.Y.) scored AIC’s lone goal with 6:20 remaining in the contest off an assist by Kiara Mojica (Windsor, Conn.). Freshmen have now accounted for all but one of AIC’s goals this season.

The Purple Knights took a 1-0 lead 17:04 into the game when Lagasse scored an unassisted tally. That would be the halftime score and the score until Letendre notched the game-winner on another unassisted goal with 12 minutes remaining in the game. AIC would halve the lead on Phelps’ tally but could get no closer.

Megan Trystman (Kwazulu Natal, South Africa) played the first half in goal for AIC and turned away 10 shots for AIC. Cindy Armand (Danvers, Mass.) played the final 35 minutes and made six stops. Senior Tamsen Hunter (Center Tuftonboro, N.H./Kingswood Regional) made a total of 10 saves in the cage for the visitors.

Saint Michael's plays its next two games on the road, beginning with Saturday's 1 p.m. contest at league-rival Stonehill College, before returning home to face Southern Connecticut State University on Sept. 18 at 1 p.m. at Doc Jacobs Field.

AIC returns to action on Thursday (9/9) when it travels to Westfield State for a 5:30 game. That game was originally slated for a 7:00 start. The next Yellow Jacket home game is Wednesday, September 22, when AIC entertains 2003 Division II runner-up UMass Lowell in a 4:00 contest.
