Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Freshman Hannah Wolfe’s (Bow, N.H./Bow) first career goal with less than six minutes remaining in regulation proved to be the difference as Saint Michael’s College shutout Bryant University, 1-0, in Northeast-10 Conference field hockey action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.
Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) turned aside six shots for her fifth career shutout for Saint Michael’s (1-3, 1-1 NE-10), which lost to Bryant in the NE-10 Semifinals last year.
For Bryant (1-3, 0-2 NE-10), senior Kristen Patat (Portsmouth, N.H.) stopped six shots.
Wolfe’s game-winner came off of a crisp crossing pass from junior Meg McCarthy (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg). Wolfe gathered the pass, and wristed a shot through Patat’s legs with 5:58 to go for the game’s lone goal.
Neither team could generate many quality scoring chances in the first half, as Saint Michael’s held a 5-3 advantage in shots. The hosts dictated the tempo throughout much of the second stanza, as the Purple Knights recorded seven penalty corners in the period to just three for the Bulldogs.
Saint Michael’s plays its next three contests on the road, beginning with Tuesday’s 4 p.m. contest at league-rival American International College. The Purple Knights’ next home game is Sept. 18 versus Southern Connecticut State University at 1 p.m.
