SAINT MICHAEL'S, MERRIMACK MEN WIN AT DOUBLETREE CLASSIC
Saint Michael’s blanks Saint Thomas Aquinas, 3-0; Merrimack shuts down Post, 3-0

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College and Merrimack College notched shutout victories on Sunday to complete play at the season-opening Doubletree Kick Off Classic, sponsored by Sodexho Services. In the first game at Doc Jacobs Field, Saint Michael’s evened its record at 1-1 with a 3-0 win versus Saint Thomas Aquinas College (0-2), and in game two, Merrimack remained undefeated with a 3-0 triumph against Post University (1-1).
In the opener, sophomore Tim Williamson (Wakefield, R.I./Barrington) earned his first collegiate victory, stopping nine shots, to earn the shutout. Sophomore Aaron Vine (Saratoga, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal 19:14 into the contest, and freshman Scott Hinman (New Hartford, Conn./Northwestern Regional) doubled the lead in his first college game, with junior Mitsuhiro Hamakawa (Chiba, Japan/Gakushuin Univ.) earning the assist. Sophomore Yoshikazu Ishii (Tokyo, Japan) completed the scoring with 2:58 left in the contest off of a long pass from senior Andrew Akins (Lisbon, N.Y./Worcester Academy).
For Saint Thomas Aquinas, freshman Sean McEnery (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) recorded three saves as the Spartans outshot the Purple Knights, 22-11.
In the nightcap, Merrimack held Post to just two shots, and none in the second half, as the Warriors won their second game in as many days. Sophomore Matt Dubois (Dracut, Mass.) and freshmen Tiago Dalboni (Medford, Mass.) and Brendan Stanford (Okinawa, Japan) scored goals for Merrimack, while senior Ted Kakambouras (Melrose, Mass.) stopped one shot for the victory.
For Post, freshman Dan Nadel (Farmington, Conn.) turned aside one shot.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Saturday, as the Purple Knights open Northeast-10 Conference play with a 1 p.m. home contest versus Bryant University.
