     POST, MERRIMACK MEN WIN AT DOUBLETREE KICK OFF CLASSIC
     Saint Michael’s drops opener, 3-2; Merrimack bests Saint Thomas Aquinas, 3-1

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Post University and Merrimack College earned season-opening men’s soccer victories on Saturday at Saint Michael’s College’s Doubletree Kick Off Classic, sponsored by Sodexho Services. In the first game, Post rallied past the host Purple Knights, 3-2, and in the nightcap, Merrimack bested Saint Thomas Aquinas College, 3-1, at Doc Jacobs Field.

In the opener, Post tallied three unanswered goals in the second half, including the game-tying and game-winning goals 16 seconds apart, to earn the win. Senior Brett Parry (Chandler, Ariz.) and freshmen Luis Figueiredo (Houston, Texas) and Dan Martins (Cheshire, Conn.) scored for the Eagles, while freshman Dan Nadel (Farmington, Conn.) stopped three shots for the victory.

For Saint Michael’s (0-1), junior Glenn Sherman (Arlington, Vt./Arlington Memorial) scored on a penalty kick in the 17th minute, and sophomore Yoshikazu Ishii (Tokyo, Japan) netted his first career goal in the 41st minute off of an assist from freshman Sean Malvey (Sturbridge, Mass./Tantasqua Regional). Senior Patrick Melvin (Belmont, Vt./Black River) turned aside four shots in the setback.

In game two, sophomore Matt Dubois (Dracut, Mass.) snapped a 1-all tie in the 50th minute as Merrimack pulled past Saint Thomas Aquinas (0-1). Classmates Tokelo Gugushe (Stoughton, Mass.) and Kiel Milliken (Kingston, Mass.) also scored for the Warriors, while freshman Tiago Dalboni (Medford, Mass.) contributed a pair of assists. Senior Ted Kakambouras (Melrose, Mass.) stopped three shots to earn the win.

For the Spartans, freshman Jon Michael Nabais (Wappinger Falls, N.Y.) tied the scored at one with an unassisted goal in the 41st minute, and junior Sean McEnery (Sloatsburg, N.Y.) recorded three saves.

The Doubletree Kick Off Classic concludes on Sunday, as Saint Michael’s takes on Saint Thomas Aquinas at 12 p.m., followed by Post and Merrimack at 2 p.m.
