SAINT MICHAEL'S EARNS 20TH WIN, SPLITS TWINBILL WITH HAWKS

Courtesy Saint Anselm Sports Information Phone: (802) 654-2537Manchester, N.H. -- Saint Anselm softball split a Northeast-10 Conference doubleheader Friday versus Saint Michael’s College dropping the first game 3-2 and picking up a win in the second game 3-2.
Saint Michael’s (20-11, 13-8 NE-10) scored an unearned run in the top of the seventh inning to win the first game of the day by a score of 3-2. Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt.) scattered five hits over seven innings allowing two runs while striking out eight in the win for the Purple Knights.
Saint Anselm (14-19, 11-13 NE-10) starter Brigitte June (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) pitched seven solid innings giving up nine hits, allowing only one earned run; four errors hurt the Hawks as the tying and winning runs were unearned.
Whitney Christmas (Brattleboro Vt.) singled four times and knocked in a run, while Meagan Newland (East Burke, Vt.) got three hits and scored two runs in the first game for the Purple Knights.
Maria Lisa Marciano (N. Reading, Mass./N. Reading) led the Hawks with two hits and Allison Joseph (Bedford, N.H./ Fairfield) recorded a hit, knocked in a run and scored a run in the losing effort.
In the second game the Hawks got a strong pitching effort from senior, Emily Chaput (Amesbury, Mass./Amesbury), as she pitched seven innings giving up only three hits and two runs. Chaput pitched five perfect innings before giving up two hits and two runs in the sixth inning. In the seventh she gave up a one-out double to catcher Noelle Gill (Deep River, Conn.), but stranded her on third after getting two groundball outs to end the game.
Julie Pistorino (Abington, Mass.) led the Hawks in the second game getting two triples, knocking in two and scoring the eventual winning run. Joseph and Haley Wojtasinski (Hingham, Mass./ Hingham) each picked up a hit for the Hawks in the win.
Newland hit a two-run double in the sixth to lead the Purple Knights, who also got a strong performance on the mound from Roberge, who threw six innings giving up only four hits and two earned runs, while striking out four, she also walked four batters.
The Hawks will return to action Sunday when they host Pace University at 12:00 PM for a doubleheader.
