PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN CLINCH NO. 4 SEED, BEST SAINT ANSELM

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College clinched the fourth seed in the upcoming Northeast-10 Conference playoffs with a 23-10 win versus Saint Anselm College in women’s lacrosse action on Thursday at Doc Jacobs Field. Saint Michael’s (6-5, 6-3 NE-10) will host a quarterfinal contest on Wednesday at 4 p.m. versus an opponent yet to be determined, while Saint Anselm (5-8, 4-5) is still very much alive for one of the final two postseason berths.
For the Purple Knights, senior Lauren Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass./Tabor Academy) tallied four goals and five assists, and moved into third place in program history with 40 career assists. Junior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) added a game-high five goals and two assists, while sophomore Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) tallied four goals. Freshman Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) netted three goals, while junior Noreen Russo (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and freshman Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) each scored twice. Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) stopped 10 shots for the 30th win of her career, breaking the program record previously held by Lisa Kendall ’87.
For the Hawks, sophomore Melissa Jubinville (Agawam, Mass.) notched four goals, while classmate Lauren Glancy (Scituate, Mass.) contributed two goals and an assist. Sophomore Jenna Marchant (Wakefield, Mass.) and freshman Beth Millian (Arlington, Mass.) both scored twice, while sophomore Sandra Landry (Canterbury, N.H.) turned aside 13 shots.Saint Anselm stayed with Saint Michael’s throughout the first half, and only trailed by two, 10-8, at intermission. Jubinville scored three times in the opening period for the Hawks, while Piekarski and Palazzo scored three times apiece in the first half.
The Purple Knights pulled away in the second half, as the hosts scored the first five goals of the period. Piekarski had all five of her assists after halftime, while Anderson stopped seven of her 10 shots in the second stanza.
Saint Michael’s plays its final game of the regular season on Friday at Assumption College at 7 p.m. Saint Anselm hosts top-ranked Stonehill College in its regular-season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m.
