PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, BEST RAVENS, 20-4

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) tallied five goals and four assists as Saint Michael’s College bested Franklin Pierce College, 20-4, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse action on Wednesday at Doc Jacobs Field.
For the Purple Knights, senior Lauren Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass./Tabor Academy) and freshman Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) each scored four goals and one assist, while sophomores Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) and Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) notched two goals and one assist apiece. Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) stopped 10 shots for her fifth win of the season and 29th of her career, matching the program record formerly held by Lisa Kendall ’87. Saint Michael’s (5-3, 5-1 NE-10) won its third straight contest and improves to 4-0 at home this season.
For the Ravens, junior Courtney Boardman (Buxton, Maine) recorded three goals, while senior Amanda McIntosh (Madison, N.J.) also scored. Junior Jessica Lloyd (Seymour, Conn.) and sophomore Andrea Brophy (Waltham, Mass.) combined for nine saves for Franklin Pierce (0-15, 0-9).
Franklin Pierce stayed with Saint Michael’s early, but Soule’s first goal of the game 10 minutes into the contest gave the Purple Knights the lead for good at 3-2. The hosts scored nine of the final 10 goals in the first half to lead at intermission, 11-3. Palazzo had four goals and two assists in the opening stanza, while Anderson turned aside seven shots.
Saint Michael’s sealed the win with the first nine goals of the second half, including three from Soule. The Purple Knights held Franklin Pierce to just six shots after halftime.
Saint Michael’s plays its next two games on the road – at top-ranked Stonehill College on Saturday and at Bryant University on Sunday – before hosting its final regular-season contest on Thurs., April 28 versus Saint Anselm College at 4 p.m. Franklin Pierce hosts Saint Anselm on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
