  PURPLE KNIGHT MEN FALL IN NE-10 QUARTERFINALS TO RAVENS, 5-1

RINDGE, N.H. (April 20, 2005) - Second-seeded Franklin Pierce collected a 5-1 victory over seventh-seeded Saint Michael’s College in quarterfinal round action of the Northeast-10 Conference men’s tennis championships this afternoon

        Franklin Pierce (13-12, 9-2 NE-10) advances to Saturday’s semifinal round at Stonehill College to face the winner of today’s match between third-seeded Bryant University and sixth-seeded Pace University. Saint Michael’s concludes its season with a 5-8 record overall, 5-6 in the NE-10.

        Franklin Pierce took two of three doubles matches, and then wrapped up the dual match with three convincing singles wins. Seniors Maciej Szpakowski (Cieszyn, Poland) and Ryan Jones (Westfield, N.J./Westfield) along with junior Arun Lazarus (Bradenton, Fla./Bayshore) were all double winners for the Ravens.

        Lazarus posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Saint Michael’s freshman Andy Samara (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) at first singles and teamed with Jones for an 8-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles. Jones registered a 6-0, 6-1 decision over freshman Luke Lombardi (Manchester, Mass./Manchester Essex Regional) at sixth singles.

        Szpakowski claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over senior Josh Holt (Woodstock, Vt./Woodstock Union) at No. 3 singles and teamed with senior J.P. Morgan (Hampton Bays, N.Y./Hampton Bays) for an 8-3 victory at third doubles.

        The Purple Knights got a point from Samara and Andrew Bolduc (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) at first doubles.
