PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN WIN SECOND STRAIGHT, BEST AIC, 14-8

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) tallied four goals for the second straight day as Saint Michael’s pulled past American International College, 14-8, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse action on Sunday at Doc Jacobs Field.
Palazzo added two assists for a game-high six points for the Purple Knights, while senior Lauren Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass./Tabor Academy) notched three goals and two assists. Sophomore Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy) contributed three goals and one assist, freshman Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) scored twice, and sophomore Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) recorded a goal and an assist as Saint Michael’s (4-3, 4-1 NE-10) won its second straight contest. Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Mass./Springfield) stopped 14 shots for her 28th career victory, one shy of matching the program record held by Lisa Kendall ’87.
For the Yellow Jackets, sophomore Lindesey Wolfe (Westfield, Mass.) tallied three goals and an assist, while senior Kristy McIntyre (Falmouth, Mass.) and freshman Caitlin Mooney (Wilbraham, Mass.) each scored twice. Freshman Shannon Burke (Billerica, Mass.) added a goal and two assists, while senior Melissa Cuthbert (Kwazulu Natal, South Africa) finished with 14 saves for AIC (1-6, 1-4).
After an evenly-played start to the contest, Saint Michael’s scored three unanswered goals in a two-minute span late in the period to take a 7-4 lead. The Purple Knights led, 7-5, at intermission, as Lagasse scored all four of her points in the opening frame.
AIC rallied in the second half, and McIntyre’s first goal of the game with 17:14 remaining evened the score at 7-all. Less than a minute later, Palazzo’s first goal gave Saint Michael’s a lead it would not relinquish, as the Purple Knights rattled off six unanswered goals to open up a 13-7 advantage. Anderson made the lead stand up with seven saves in the second stanza, all coming in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. home contest versus league-rival Franklin Pierce College, while AIC hosts Bentley College on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
