COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College scored the first 10 goals and rolled past Southern Connecticut State University, 17-3, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s lacrosse action on Saturday at Doc Jacobs Field.

For the Purple Knights, junior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills) tallied a game-high four goals, while senior Lauren Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass./Tabor Academy) added three goals and two assists. Sophomore Megan Rule (Bow, N.H./Bow) chipped in three goals and one assist, and junior Noreen Russo (Wilmette, Ill./New Trier) and freshmen Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) and Amanda Soule (Hartland, Vt./Woodstock Union) each scored twice. Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) stopped 10 shots for Saint Michael’s (3-3, 3-1 NE-10).

For the Owls, freshman Chelsea Spring (Glastonbury, Conn.) notched a goal and an assist, while junior Cathy Cardini (Willington, Conn.) and sophomore Allison Ahearn (Farmingville, N.Y.) also scored. Senior Cori Krajewski (Carmel, N.Y.) turned aside 15 shots as SCSU (1-7, 1-6) dropped its fifth straight contest.

Saint Michael’s took control from the outset, scoring seven times in the opening 11:38. Palazzo recorded all four of her goals in the first half, while Spring’s goal with 27 seconds left in the period got the Owls on the scoreboard and cut the visitors’ deficit to 10-1 at intermission.

The Purple Knights sealed the win with seven goals in the second half, including two each by Curran, Piekarski and Russo. Anderson kept SCSU at bay with seven saves after halftime.

Saint Michael’s returns to action on Sunday with a 2 p.m. home contest versus league-rival American International College, while Southern Connecticut plays at AIC on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
