PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN WIN FIFTH STRAIGHT, BEST SNHU, 7-2

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College won its fifth straight match on Saturday, besting Southern New Hampshire University, 7-2, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis action on the outdoor courts. Saint Michael’s improves to 9-3 overall and 8-3 in conference action, while SNHU falls to 4-8 overall and 3-8 in league play.
Senior Shannon Bergin (Milford, Conn./Lauralton Hall) led the way for Saint Michael’s in the final regular-season home match of her career. She recorded a straight-set win in No. 1 singles, and teamed with junior Heidi Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) for an 8-5 victory in No. 1 doubles. The Purple Knights won all three doubles matches to open up a 3-0 lead, and sealed the victory on sophomore Liz Clemente’s (Latham, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) three-set triumph at No. 4 singles.
Saint Michael’s plays its regular-season finale at league-rival Merrimack College on Sunday at 10:30 a.m., and will host an NE-10 Quarterfinal match on Wednesday at 2 p.m. SNHU hosts Pace on Sunday at 10:30 a.m.
