In the first game, the Purple Knights pulled past AIC, 5-2, and in game two, Saint Michael’s (9-5, 4-2 NE-10) rallied for a 3-2 victory versus AIC (3-17, 0-8).
In game one, senior Noelle Gill’s (Deep River, Conn./Mercy) two-out, run-scoring single in the bottom of the sixth inning snapped a 2-all tie and gave Saint Michael’s the victory. Gill, sophomore Meggan Roberge (Sheldon Springs, Vt./Missisquoi Valley Union) and freshman Katy Newland (East Burke, Vt./Lyndon Institute) each singled twice to pace the Purple Knights’ eight-hit attack, with Newland scoring twice. Roberge also was stellar on the mound, as she fired her seventh complete game of the season, allowing five hits while striking out six.
For the Yellow Jackets, senior Keli Waite’s (Granville, N.Y.) solo home run in the fourth inning trimmed AIC’s deficit to 2-1, and her run-scoring double in the sixth inning plated freshman Teresa Bonavita (Agawam, Mass.) and evened the score at two. Bonavita singled twice and swiped two bases in the opener, while sophomore Morgan Larson (Queensbury, N.Y.) took the loss in a complete-game effort.
In the nightcap, Newland’s single in the bottom of the seventh inning plated junior Elizabeth Pigeon (Saint Albans, Vt./BFA-Saint Albans) with the winning run and helped Saint Michael’s rally from a two-run deficit. Newland singled twice in the win, while senior Whitney Christmas (Brattleboro, Vt./Brattleboro Union) added a double and single. Sophomore Meg Currier (Greenfield, Mass./Stoneleigh-Burnham School) laced an RBI double in game two, while Roberge improved her perfect record to 9-0 on the season with four innings of scoreless relief.
Sophomore Brittany Provost (Delanson, N.Y.) led AIC with an RBI double and a single, while Waite singled twice. Freshman Megan Nickerson (Greenfield, Mass.) suffered the loss on the mound.
The Purple Knights return to action on Thursday with a home doubleheader versus league-rival Assumption College beginning at 3:30 p.m. AIC hosts Le Moyne College in a doubleheader on Wednesday.
