The sixth-year head coach ties Azzie Azagoh Kouadio's mark for most victories, accomplished from 1988-96, as Saint Michael's (8-5-2/5-5-1 NE-10) won its third straight contest.
It marks the first time in nearly two years that the 16th-ranked Golden Knights (8-2-2/6-2-2 NE-10) have suffered back-to-back losses. Saint Rose came into today off of Saturday’s 3-0 defeat at Southern Connecticut State in New Haven.
All of the scoring came in the opening 20 minutes as Saint Michael’s struck at the 13:07 mark before Saint Rose tied the game less than a minute later. The Purple Knights countered with the eventual game-winner with 18:27 elapsed.
Saint Rose controlled play throughout the second half by outshooting Saint Michael’s by a 6-1 margin. However, the Golden Knights could not generate the equalizer as Saint Michael’s freshman keeper Gillian Goldman (Stratham, N.H./Exeter) came up with four key saves after intermission.
Senior midfielder Devin Camerlengo (South Burlington, Vt./Rice Memorial) commenced the scoring when she collected a through ball from junior forward Judy Cronin (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) and took one dribble before letting go of a shot from 12-yards out.
Saint Rose tied the affair when freshman midfielder Lindsay Bove (Holliston, Mass./Holliston) pushed a ball through the penalty area which senior midfielder Sarah Gomes (Newington, Conn./Newington) one-touched home for her second goal of the year.
Camerlengo then fed a crisp pass a few feet off the ground to sophomore midfielder Rachel Gallien (Addison, Vt./Vergennes Union) who drove it out of the air and into the goal for the game-winner.
The Golden Knights will head to Newark, N.J., to meet NJIT in a non-league game next Sunday, October 17. Kickoff is set for 1:00 pm. Meanwhile, Saint Michael’s will host conference rival Stonehill on Saturday at noon.###PURPLEKNIGHTS###
