Senior Linette Letendre (Wellfleet, Mass./Northfield-Mt. Hermon) earned the assist on Dewey’s game-winning tally, while classmate Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) stopped six shots for her second shutout of the season. Saint Michael’s (6-9, 6-7 NE-10), which won for just the second time in its last seven games, avenges a 1-0 loss at Stonehill exactly one month ago, and pulls within one-half game of the Chieftains for the fourth seed in the upcoming NE-10 playoffs.
For the Chieftains, freshman Dani Ryder (Fiskdale, Mass.) recorded two saves. Stonehill (8-7, 6-6 NE-10) was shutout for the second straight contest, and falls to 2-5 in one-goal decisions this season.
The winning goal came off of Saint Michael’s third penalty corner of the game, a season-low for the Purple Knights. Following a loose ball, Letendre gained possession on the right side and slipped a pass to Dewey, who wristed a shot past Ryder for her first goal of the season.
Stonehill dominated play for much of the contest, but was unable to capitalize on its chances. The Chieftains held Saint Michael’s to just one shot in the first 60 minutes and four in the game, while the visitors held a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners, including 5-1 in the first half.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Saturday, as the Purple Knights host league-rival Assumption College at 1 p.m.
