PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN WIN THIRD STRAIGHT, BLANK ASSUMPTION, 9-0

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College won its third straight match on Sunday, besting Assumption College, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis action on the outdoor courts. Saint Michael’s improves to 7-3 overall and 6-3 in conference action, while Assumption falls to 3-4 overall and in league play.
The Purple Knights edged the Greyhounds in each doubles contest, than rallied for a trio of three-set singles victories to earn their second shutout of the weekend. Senior Shannon Bergin (Milford, Conn./Lauralton Hall), junior Heidi Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) and sophomore Liz Clemente (Latham, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) each dropped the first set of their respective singles match before taking the final two sets and seal the shutout.
Saint Michael’s returns to action on Tuesday with a 3:30 p.m. home match versus league-rival American International College, while Assumption hosts Southern New Hampshire University on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
