PURPLE KNIGHTS DROP FIRST CONFERENCE GAME OF SEASON, 14-3

Phone: (802) 654-2537NORTH ANDOVER, Mass. (Apr. 10, 2005) – Freshman Allison Kownacki scored a career high six goals to lead the Merrimack College women’s lacrosse team to 14-3 win over Saint Michael’s College in a Northeast-10 contest on Sunday afternoon.
The Warriors, who outscored the Purple Knights 10-1 in the second half, won their fifth consecutive game to improve to 6-2 overall, 4-0 in the Northeast-10. Saint Michael’s fell to 2-3, 2-1.
Kownacki (Orange, Conn.) helped Merrimack turn an early 2-1 deficit into a 5-2 lead, scoring four goals in a row to finish the first half and open the second. Junior Alison Colarusso (North Andover, Mass.) added five goals for Merrimack, which outshot Saint Michael’s 32-12.
Sophomore Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass.) scored two goals to lead the Purple Knights.
Freshman Lawana DaCosta (Framingham, Mass.) made four saves for Merrimack, while senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt.) stopped 13 shots for Saint Michael’s.
Merrimack, now in sole possession of second place in the Northeast-10 standings, will face Southern New Hampshire on the road on Thursday, while the Purple Knights return home to face Southern Connecticut on Saturday.
