PURPLE KNIGHT WOMEN ROLL PAST SAINT ROSE, 9-0

Phone: (802) 654-2537COLCHESTER, Vt. – Saint Michael’s College won every set in blanking the College of Saint Rose, 9-0, in Northeast-10 Conference women’s tennis action on Saturday on the outdoor courts. Saint Michael’s improves to 6-3 overall and 5-3 in conference action, while Saint Rose falls to 0-6 overall and in league play.
The Purple Knights received a pair of 6-0, 6-0 victories from senior Shannon Bergin (Milford, Conn./Lauralton Hall) in No. 1 singles, and freshman Michelle Wood (Chatham, N.Y./Chatham) in No. 5 singles. Junior Heidi Murphy (Norfolk, Mass./King Philip Regional) and sophomore Cara Bednar (Marblehead, Mass./Marblehead) dropped just one game in winning their respective singles matches.
Both teams return to action on Sunday, as Saint Michael’s hosts Assumption College at 1 p.m., and Saint Rose hosts Stonehill College at 11 a.m.
