COLCHESTER, Vt. – Senior Mike Curley (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) led a balanced scoring attack with a program record-tying seven assists as Saint Michael’s College bested American International College, 19-4, in Northeast-10 Conference men’s lacrosse action on Tuesday at Doc Jacobs Field.

Curley joins two other Purple Knights that have recorded seven assists in one game. John Leahy did so versus Quinnipiac on April 7, 1997, and Hall of Famer Mike Riddell did so twice in the mid-1980’s.

Curley added two goals to the winning cause, while junior Brandon Kobelt (Rye, N.Y./Fordham Prep) notched three goals and five assists. Senior Ryan Lynn (New Canaan, Conn./Kent School) and freshmen Mark Agostinelli (Dedham, Mass./Xaverian) and Brian Wadlinger (Wolfsboro, N.H./Bridgton Academy) each netted three goals, while senior Nick Calnen (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) chipped in two goals and four assists. Freshman Chris Daughtry (Houston, Texas/Westside) stopped four shots for his first career victory as Saint Michael’s (4-2, 2-2 NE-10) matched its win total from all of 2004 under second-year head coach Paul Schimoler.

Sophomore Neil Sullivan (Buffalo, N.Y.) paced the Yellow Jackets with three goals, while classmate Luke Legendre (Uxbridge, Mass.) turned aside four shots for AIC (0-3, 0-3).

Saint Michael’s seized control early, as the Purple Knights scored seven times in the opening period to take a 7-2 lead. The Purple Knights clamped down defensively in the second quarter, scoring five unanswered goals in the stanza to lead at the break, 12-2. The hosts sealed the victory with four goals in the third period, and three goals in a penalty-filled fourth quarter.

Both teams return to action on Thursday, as Saint Michael’s visits Franklin Pierce College at 6 p.m., and AIC hosts Pace University at 3:30 p.m. The Purple Knights’ next home contest is Saturday versus Southern New Hampshire University at 1:30 p.m.
