HILTON HEAD, SC:  The Limestone College women’s lacrosse team (4-1) defeated St. Michael’s College (0-1).  The seventh ranked Lady Saints topped the Purple Knights 13-11.

After the two teams battled to a 6-6 tie at halftime, defender Kristen Black scored to put Limestone on top with 24:45 to play.  St. Michael’s would tie the game at seven and later take an 8-7 lead.  Susie Russell then rattled off 3 consecutive goals, the first two assisted by Andrea Poor, to put the Lady Saints on top by a score of 10-8.  Limestone would not relinquish that lead as the Lady Saints held on for the 13-11 win.

Jackie Weaver made 14 saves in goal for Limestone including several tremendous saves in the second half.

Head Coach Scott Tucker was pleased with his team’s performance down the stretch.  “We played very well in the second half.  We were much more aggressive with the ball, and Jackie Weaver made some big saves that allowed us to get back into our offense.”

Russell finished with 3 goals.  Brooke Nowell found the net 3 times on 4 shots.  Andrea Poor continued her outstanding play with 5 points on 2 goals and 3 assists.  Marissa Pesce scored one goal, and the Limestone defense scored three goals, two by Kristen Black and one from Kristina Miles.

Senior Jess Anderson (Springfield, Vt./Springfield) made 11 saves for St. Michael’s.  The Purple Knights were led by sophomore Megan Lagasse (Newburyport, Mass./Governor Dummer Academy), who scored 3 goals and an assist, while junior Kristen Palazzo (Armonk, N.Y./Byram Hills), senior Lauren Piekarski (East Sandwich, Mass./Tabor Academy) and freshman Brynne Curran (Cape Elizabeth, Maine/Cape Elizabeth) each scored twice.

Saint Michael’s contest scheduled for Friday at East Stroudsburg University has been cancelled due to unplayable field conditions. The Purple Knights’ next game is Thurs., Mar. 24 versus Northeast-10 Conference rival Assumption College at Worcester State College at 7 p.m.
