Phone: (802) 654-2537SOUTH BURLINGTON, Vt. – Babson College scored four times in the first 16:22 and cruised to a 7-0 win versus Saint Michael’s College in ECAC East men’s ice hockey action on Saturday at Cairns Arena.
For the Beavers, juniors Johnny Kim (Brookville, Md.) and Jamas LaFreniere (Southborough, Mass.) scored two goals and an assist each, while junior Tom Sullivan (Pembroke, Mass.) and sophomore Ryan Farrell (East Islip, N.Y.) netted a goal and an assist apiece. Senior Brett Adamczyk (Agawam, Mass.) also scored, and sophomore John Sterbling (Farmington Hills, Mich.) stopped all 15 shots he faced for Babson (8-4-2, 4-3-2 ECAC East).
For the Purple Knights, sophomore Derek Jackson (Clinton, N.Y./Gunnery School) recorded 48 saves. Saint Michael’s (5-6-2, 2-5-2) falls under .500 for the first time this season, and could not avenge a Dec. 28 loss to Babson in the opening round of the Codfish Bowl.
Babson dominated the opening 20 minutes, as the visitors outshot Saint Michael’s 18-5 while taking a 4-0 lead. LaFreniere opened the scoring just 14 seconds into the contest, scoring on the game’s first shot, and Kim doubled the Beavers’ advantage at the 6:52 mark with an even-strength tally. LaFreniere’s power play goal increased the lead to 3-0 9:38 into the period, and Adamczyk’s shot from the slot with 3:38 left in the frame completed the first-period scoring.
In the second period, Saint Michael’s failed to score despite skating with a man advantage for more than 10 minutes. Babson notched the lone goal of the stanza 12:29 into the period, as Farrell lit the lamp with an unassisted tally.
The Beavers sealed the win in the third period, as Babson scored twice while peppering 23 shots on goal in the frame. Kim netted his second goal of the contest 70 seconds into the period, and Sullivan completed the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded tally at the 7:51 mark.
Saint Michael’s plays its next four games on the road, beginning with Friday’s contest at ECAC East rival Wesleyan University, before returning home to host Northeast-10 Conference foe Southern New Hampshire University on Feb. 1 at 7 p.m.
