|
Larry Kimball, a long-time assistant coach at the University of Vermont, is entering his fifth season as the women’s cross country coach at Saint Michael’s in 2005. During his first season at the helm in 2001, the Purple Knights went 30-25, the first time since 1992 the squad posted a winning record with 30 or more victories. He posted exactly 100 victories in his first three years, all winning seasons. Kimball made a name for himself at Vermont, where he was an assistant under Ed Kusiak from 1990-98. During that time, he helped lead the Catamounts to four conference runner-up finishes, coached two NCAA Division I individual national qualifiers, and helped earn the America East Coaching Staff of the Year award in 1991 and 1997. Prior to his tenure at Vermont, he coached the boys cross country team at Burlington (Vt.) High School to the 1971 state championship and the BFA-Fairfax (Vt.) girls team to the 1987 state title. As a student, he competed at Carson-Newman College. In addition to his coaching resume, he also served as the Co-Race Director of the Stowe 8-Mile Road Race for 18 years. He has been on the race committee for the Key Bank Vermont City Marathon since 1989, and was an Executive Committee Member for the Women’s Cross Country Coaches Association from 1992-97. In 2003, he was awarded the Governor's Council for Physical Fitness Award by Gov. Jim Douglas. A native of Essex Junction, Vt., Kimball lives in Burlington. |
